Olympic Team of Baby Hats

Maureen here - Rob and Laurel's blog helper. As the 2008 Summer Olympics came to a close, so did the Ravelympics, an online knitters and crocheters Olympics in which everyone who completed a project "medaled." As part of the Ravelympics, I crocheted the 5 baby hats pictured above as part of Team Red Sox Nation. These hats are for Beverly Hospital, and they'll be donated with the Coveted Yarn contest hats. I'm not eligible for the contest, but YOU are. Here are the details.

NEWBORN KNIT CROCHET HAT CONTEST: Donate a knit or crocheted hat and each hat entered will be counted as an entry into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to our website http://www.covetedyarn.com/ All hats will be donated to the Beverly Hospital to be given to newborns. There is no limit on the number of hats you can send in. To be eligible all hats must be received by end of day on September 30. Fiber of the Week - Aug. 20

Remember when you were young (maybe you still are!) and on summer vacation. Wasn't summer the time to break out and do things you'd never do any other time? Well, the season's winding down; it definitely feels like fall is coming on Cape Ann. So here's one more chance to celebrate those crazy summers with a fiber of the week is just a little bit wild. It's Tahiti by Queensland Collection. It comes in 9 printed colorways that are not for those who want prim and proper knitting.

Fiber of the Week - Aug. 13

We're back with a new fiber of the week for 20% off. It's from Mirasol Yarns. This line features beautiful luxurious hand dyed 100% Merino Wool from the Peruvian Highlands. A portion of every wholesale purchase is dedicated directly to funding a school in the remote area of Munani in the region of Puno to educate the children of the shepherds. The specific yarn for this week is Cotanani.

Gloucester's Sidewalk Bazaar and Coveted Yarn's Baby Hat Contest

We have 4 hats so far for this quarter's contest and we have promises of more to come.

We won't get pictures up until next week because we are very busy getting ready for the Sidewalk Bazaar in Gloucester this Thurs, Fri, and Sat from 9am to 5pm. We will be set up in front of the Kid's Closet on Main St. in Gloucester MA so please come and visit! There will be a great sale on Schaefer's Anne Sock Yarn too! We will have only handpainted yarns this year but we have a lot of them, over 50 skeins of Anne alone. The booth will also have children's tie dye from Gloucester Tie Dye so it should be a lot of fun.

Time for a new fiber of the week for 20% off. It's from Sublime Yarns, a new luxury fiber line created by Sirdar. I've chosen the Organic Cotton that comes in eight beautifully subtle colors. Fiber of the Week Sale - July 23

Maureen here with the fiber of the week, starting July 23. In honor of Araucania becoming one of the Coveted Yarns, this week it's Ranco Sock Yarn that will be 20% off. This Chilean yarn comes in 40 colorways. The yarn is kettle dyed, so no two skeins will be exactly alike; Araucania recommends that you alternate skeins while knitting. However, dangerous knitters just keep going to see what happens. Your choice, depending on your own taste. The specs:

This week it's Schaefer Yarn Company's Susan. I picked it because it's cotton, it's gorgeous, and it's from my homeland of upstate New York. Here are the stats:

• 100% Mercerized Pima Cotton
• 6 Oz. Skein 470 Yards

This handpainted cotton is available in 27 colorways - some multicolored, some solid. As always, if Rob doesn't have a specific color in stock he will order it for you. Sale ends midday next Wednesday the 23rd.
